Balor the tyrant king of the Fomorians.
, I had a number of issues. The sculpt was about 8 million polys but i had to bring it down so the file size was under 50mb(free sketchfab account limit). originally i had designed this guy with one big eye in the center of the forehead but i wasn’t happy with how it looked and after looking at reference of goat head i saw that the eyes are on the side of the head as with most grazer animals so they can see whats coming while they eat. i could spend another two weeks working on this but at some point, you got to know when to quit.
Balor was the tyrant king of the Fomorians.
The Fomorians are a supernatural race in [Irish mythology]. They are often portrayed as hostile and monstrous beings who come from the sea or underground. Later, they were portrayed as giants and sea raiders. They are enemies of Ireland’s first settlers and opponents of the Tuatha Dé Danann the other supernatural race in Irish mythology. However, their relationship with the Tuath Dé Danann is complex and some of their members intermarry and have children. The Fomorians have thus been likened to the [jötnar] of Norse mythology.
The Fomorians seem to have been gods who represent the harmful or destructive powers of nature; personifications of chaos, darkness, death, blight and drought The Tuath Dé Danann, in contrast, seem to represent the gods of growth and civilization. They are sometimes said to have had the body of a man and the head of a goat, according to an 11th-century text in Lebor na hUidre (the Book of the Dun Cow), or to have had one eye, one arm and one leg, but some, for example [Elatha], the father of [Bres], were very beautiful. Bres himself carries the epithet “the Beautiful”.
